There are only six days left of the current New Zealand racing season.
It is hard to believe that in six days' time, this current racing season will draw to a close - and everything reverts right back to the very beginning. Everyone starts on an "even keel" again - and as that date draws near, we can all look back at this current season with huge pride and enormous satisfaction.
This has been a remarkable season is so many ways - and in the next few days we will highlight again some of the moments that were so special for us all.
No doubt - breaking the all time NZ record for wins in a season was the stand out achievement. This could not have been achieved without a true TEAM effort - the commitment and dedication of so many people - especially of our owners who support us so loyally with their investment in Te Akau. Of course our staff (north, south and stud) are world class and they really believe in what they do. We are blessed with truly professional partners such as our veterinary surgeons, farriers, feed suppliers, the Majestic transport team and all of our other partners who work so hard to help us achieve our lofty goals.
To date, we have recorded 108 wins for the season - the previous all time best was 104. We have also celebrated 10 black type victories and have won stakes' earnings for our owners of almost $2 million.
We have been thrilled with David Ellis buying 46 young horses in the past year - and having sold and paid for every share in every one of them. This is an achievement that has probably not been matched around the world in the past year either - so we are told!
And as this new season approaches - our fervent commitment to our owners continues. The world of international opportunity will be crucial to future success and we will be establishing our international arm in Singapore with Mark Walker as our trainer there, joined by his wife Julia and children Zavier and Alexis.
However our determination to be a leader in New Zealand racing through quality horses, quality training and top results will be maintained - we are very excited about our Assistant Trainer Jason Bridgman taking over as our New Zealand trainer on 1 August and we know that with his wife Stacey and children Nola and Lane we are in for exciting times ahead.
Gus and Karen Clutterbuck will of course continue to be a vital part of our organisation, with their wonderful support managing our Rangiora stable and the upcoming New Zealand Cup Carnival is firmly on our radar!
