Working 18m out on a heavy course proper, Keep Eve (Grylls) and Shahbab (Kasim) covered 1000m in 1:07.8, with their final 600m in 39.2. Shahbab will be chasing a hat-trick in the three-year-old 1400 at the Taumarunui meeting, while Keep Eve, who followed her maiden win with a last start second, will run in the same race or in Rating 70 grade.
Kirra Surf (Gartner) turned in a smart trial for Friday’s local meeting when he and Dire Streets (Dowling) cut out 1200m in 1:26.6 and 600m in 40.9. Kirra Surf was impressive in his last start win and appears to have thrived in the meantime. Dire Streets is a Street Cry filly with placed trials form and is scheduled to make her debut at Matamata.
Nicole Amy (Russell) and Oriental Lad (Grylls) prepared for Otaki on Saturday with sound work over 1200m in 1:20.3, but due to fog no sectional times could be taken. The same applied to Taumarunui Cup hopeful Solidarity (Moody), who was well contained in solo work over 1200m in 1:19.3.

Capone (Coleman) and Shiquan (Gregory) left 1200m behind in 1:23.3 and the last 600m in 40.2. Capone starts in the three-year-old event at Te Rapa, while last start winner Shiquan lines up in the special conditions maiden event. Spinnaker Run (S Lacy) strode over 1200m in 1:25.4 and Sand Jewell (M Brosnan) took 1:26.2.
On the all-weather track Te Rapa candidate Sirrevie (R Jones) did sound work over 1000m in 1:10.2 and 600m in 40.3. Antonio Belle (Coleman), another for Te Rapa, was not after time over 1000m in 1:17.3 and 600m in 44.8.
